Wikipedia Advises on Shark Attack Prevention
Oh, Wikipedia.
While bouncing around pages on Wikipedia, I stumbled into their recommended shark attack prevention methods.
- avoiding swimming alone, always being near a group of people, and if possible, avoiding being at the edge of the group; (aka- Use your friends to create a protective circle.)
- refraining from excess splashing or movement; (aka - Swimming. Don’t do it.)
- avoiding tan lines which can attract sharks; (aka - Sharks are the new spray tan police)
- avoiding areas where the remains of fish have been discarded into the water, such as near fishermen cleaning their catch. (aka - Don’t swim in chum.)
- sharks attack at 2-3 feet of water, so remember to stay closer than that in shark-infested waters. (…swimming in shark infested waters. Enough said, Wikipedia.)
This is what you all missed viewing while Wikipedia was down yesterday.
Simple Plan - Shut Up! (world premiere: January 17th 2005)
Holy crap. I remember where I was when this video premiered, and it doesn’t feel like seven years ago. I also remember being heartbroken that I couldn’t go to the shoot. They all just need to go back to the Role Model and MOTH days where Pat was always hiding somewhere. Oh, being 14.
New Years Resolution
In 2011 I:
- Made straight A’s (even in math…YES!)
- Visited another country
- Ultimate dream come true: Photographed Simple Plan
- Got my first two ‘real’ jobs
- Worked on a television show
- Worked my first premier
- Saw a bunch of awesome movies
- Worked on a studio lot
- SO MUCH MORE!
Thank you to all my friends who made 2011 a fantastic year.
Because I’ve never made one before, this year I’m going to play catch up with things I believe are possible, and decidedly needed this year.
Read at least one thing from the news every day:
So far, I’ve pretty much labored under the idea that all news is depressing. I’m going to try and prove myself wrong on that one, and try to be more informed.
My cop out: I’m probably going to read everything on Yahoo news and browse the politics section in preparation for the upcoming election.
Be a better friend to those who matter to me:
Step 1: There are enough stupid people in the world that any hostility I have to any situation or person in general could be much better spent on those other than the ones I care about. No one is perfect, but I know I have quite a few friends who get pretty close.
Step 2: Become better friends with some of the great people I’ve met this year, mostly through interning. They are some pretty special folks.
Step 3: Never too late to be better friends with your family.
My cop out: This may boil down to remembering to wish people happy birthday on Facebook and via text…and the occasional card. Also includes looking at those who aren’t such great friends and trimming the flab.
Eat healthier:
This really just comes down to making time to eat. Any good tumblrs for quick and easy weeknight meals? I can’t count the number of times I just forgot to eat last semester.
My cop out: I’m totally not open to fully giving up Taco Bell…judge as you will.
Donate to FreeKibble and KibbleKat every day:
By the end of the year, I will have donated 3,650 pieces of kibble to dogs, and that amount again to cats still looking for homes in shelters.
My cop out: None, I’d really like to do this. You should too! www.freekibble.com
By the end of this 2012, I will have (hopefully):
- Graduated from college
- Gone on a mini vacation to the snow
- Enjoyed more amazing Christmas parties
- Kept up with a job I enjoy
- Returned to Disneyland!!!
